Sophos discovered the first case of Malware broadcast from a game

Sophos anti-virus updates malware called "Trojan" on an Android game.

Sophos , an antivirus has recently discovered a new infection on the Android system able to hide and spread through a simple game developed ad hoc. The Roar of the Pharaoh is a Chinese game that is not available on Google Store , but via a Market alternative.

Sophos detects malicious version of this game as André / Stiniter-A . This Trojan is unusual because it does not require any specific permissions during installation, which is often an indicator for us to be careful if the application in question the right to request access to that part of the mobile it does not need.

Once installed, the application gathers malicious sensitive information (IMEI, IMSI, phone model, screen size, platform, phone number or the version of the OS) and sends them to authors malware.

Like many other Trojans on mobile , it sends SMS messages to premium rate numbers but is also able to read SMS messages as those sent.

The malware poses as a service called " GameUpdateService ", a name quite plausible for a legitimate application if you went to see the processes that may be running on your device.

The malware also attempts to communicate with four domain names. Com:

with a path "tgloader-android", leading some to refer to this Trojan horse TGLoader .

Practice rewarding but unassailable

Criminals love money laundering by premium SMS provided by mobile providers. They can configure SMS premium rate numbers in Europe and Asia with little difficulty.

The principle is simple: as long as you understand that you have lost a lot of money (usually upon receipt of your monthly bill if you have purchased a subscription), the thugs have disappeared long ago, and the premium rate number changed.

As always, make sure you only install applications from official sources for safer smartphone experience. While the sophistication of mobile malware today is quite low, this is not always true if there is money to be made. Do not tend to stick to beat you.
