HOW TO CONFIGURE SITE SEARCH IN GOOGLE ANALYTICS


     Google Analytics has several features that many people doknow but could gain much if they knew how to use them correctly. The search function of the site is one of those features that is useful for the average webmaster. With it, you will find exactly what your visitors are typing in your search box, which can help to develop the content or redesigning your page flow.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Sign in to your Google Analytics page.
  2. Click "Analytics Settings" in the top navigation bar. Here you will find a list of all the sites you are currently tracking with Google Analytics. Click "Edit" to implement a site search for the website of your choice.
  3. Change the information main profile. This is where you can change the website URL, time zone and other details. Down the page, you can choose to "follow site search. "Once you click this radio button, a variety of choices appear.
  4. Decide what query parameters that you want for your site search tracking. This varies depending on your site, but could be something as simple as "Search" or "Application".
  5. Indicate whether to strip the query parameters URL and use categories. This is personal preference and depends on the design of your site.
  6. Save the changes. Once you click "Save Changes", you are included in the profile settings. You can continue to change your settings, or simply go back to the dashboard to check your statistics.
  7. Check the statistics on your site research in a few days to make sure everything works correctly.
